Cooling Bija Chakra Toning

I had the pleasure of teaching a floating yoga nidra class recently. Before we settled into the procedure of yoga nidra, I instructed them to use the cooling seed sounds of the chakras. I have been using these for ~seven years since Amy Weintraub of Life Force Yoga taught me how powerful they are for those experiencing trauma or traumatic memories/triggers.

There are cooling and warming sounds, depending on the need.  She used this in tandem with psychotherapists that aimed to calm a client for a productive session or to help re-set their nervous system rhythm at different times of the day. To retrain.

I believe we all need to re-set and retrain our brain out of “‘fight or flight or freeze” responses. So I‘ve used it for all types of classes and even fitness clients. People that are not so keen to “OM” or hear themselves make weird sounds outloud are surprised at the “everything is ok” feeling afterward. While that can be brief, it is still a reset and a retraining of the brain to feel something other than anxiety and unrest. More importantly, it is a free tool that can be done at anytime, for the most part anywhere.

Benefits, you ask?  Yes, there are many.  Most simply, a person cannot be in their complaining, frontal lobe space of their brain- when feeling/hearing/singing tones.

It calms you.  It focuses you.  It gives you a practice that helps you feel the cells of your body vibrate from within.  That is somatic awareness, (what the S stands for in PRiSM).  It is sense awarness and it triggers a certain part of your nervous system responsible for rest, digestion, and ease.

So tone baby tone!  Let yourself be heard (even if it is in your car, by yourself)!
